Jayne Mansfield was most likely chosen to grace the cover of 'Hollywood Babylon' because of her bizarre death and connection to the Church of Satan. Jayne was said to have become a practicing member after her meeting with church-founder Anton LaVey in 1966. LaVey's sister would later confirm this, along with her belief that Mansfield had a romantic relationship with him, leading many to believe in the lore surrounding her tragic passing. You see -- in 1967, Miz Jayne and on-again-off-again lover Sam Brody were both in a car that collided with a tractor-trailer, killing each of them as well as their driver and her small dog. According to the controversial book (controversial for content believed to just be rumor), legend has it that Jayne had apparently been warned to stay away from Brody as he had allegedly been cursed a year prior.
