Disgusting on so many levels. A Univision news team was detained by Nicolas Maduro for two hours after they showed the Venezuelan president a video of his people eating from a garbage truck.
According to the news network, Jorge Ramos was interviewing Maduro in the Venezuelan presidential palace on Monday when the award-winning journalist started asking questions the president “did not like.”
Maduro reportedly grew upset about 17 minutes into the interview, according to Ramos, when subjects were brought up like “the lack of democracy in Venezuela, the torture of political prisoners, about the humanitarian crisis that they are living.”

When Maduro was shown a video of Venezuelan men literally eating garbage out of a truck, he apparently had enough. Ramos later told Univision:
“He got up after I showed him videos of young people eating out of a bin lorry… [W]hen I showed him these images, he said that the interview was over… What I told Nicolas Maduro is that millions of Venezuelans and many governments around the world don’t consider him a legitimate president but a dictator.”
Univision said the six-member crew had been held for almost three hours in the presidential palace before being released. Their equipment and personal belongings were confiscated and not returned.
During their detention, Ramos and Univision Vice President Maria Martinez were reportedly kept for “a few minutes” in a separate room where the lights were turned off. The network said in an update on Twitter:

The anchor’s daughter, Paola Ramos, confirmed on Twitter that her father was “safe.” She explained that after Maduro saw the video, the president allegedly “stopped him & then forced him & his team into a dark room for 2.5 hours. He was then released without any of his belongings.”
Venezuela’s Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said the government welcomes hundreds of journalists but does not welcome “cheap shows.”
As for the video that set Maduro off, you can watch it below. But, disclaimer: it’s pretty unsettling.
