The Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot would never forget about the coolest kid at West Beverly High.
At an INTV conference in Jerusalem on Monday, CBS TV Studios president David Stapf revealed that the upcoming revival will find a way to honor Luke Perry, one of its original stars who died earlier this month.
While it’s not yet clear how the late star will be honored, Stapf said the writers are figuring out a way to appropriately honor the man who played the ultimate 90s bad boy, Dylan McKay. He explained:
“[H]ow we deal with [Perry’s death] moving forward is yet to be determined. That’s something the writers are going to have to figure out.”
Stapf also confirmed that the 52-year-old had not signed up for the revival, which was announced by Fox on the same day the actor suffered a stroke, due to his commitments on Riverdale.
But before Perry’s death, Tori Spelling, who was apparently the one who pitched the reboot in the first place, had said he would “do as many” episodes as he could work in around his shooting schedule on The CW series.

Speaking more on the revival during the panel, Stapf recalled how Spelling had the idea during a meeting with the head of CBS’ alternative programming:
“Tori Spelling, as she is wont to do, comes in and pitches a lot of ideas and is in our offices a lot. She kicked the idea around of ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to get the whole gang back together?'”
She thought so. Stapf went on to reveal that Spelling took the idea and “ran with it,” adding:
“[She] literally put the entire cast together, put a fabulous pitch together with all of them and took it out, and everybody wanted it.”
The 90210 reboot is being produced by CBS TV Studios, but, as Stapf explained, execs “ultimately decided the best place for it – not only creatively but financially – was Fox, where it originally aired.”
Many of Perry’s former 90210 costars have already spoken out about his tragic passing. Last week, Spelling publicly mourned the late actor, whom she saw as “a protector and a brother,” in a statement to People, revealing:
“I’m in utter shock and heartbroken. I’m saddened for his kids whom he adored beyond words. He was so proud of Jack and Sophie. Luke was one of the kindest and most humble human beings I’ve ever known. I’m grateful for the years of friendship we had. He truly was family to me, a protector and a brother. I’m so sorry for the loss that everyone is experiencing.”
Spelling starred alongside Perry on 90210 from 1990-2000, so it makes sense they shared a bond as close as family.
Fellow alums from the hit show, including Shannen Doherty, Ian Ziering, and Jason Priestley, have also publicly expressed their sadness.
We’re sure the cast and creators of the reboot will come up with the perfect send off for him.
