The City Of Chicago Wants $130K From Jussie Smollett For Overtime Pay For Cops Who Investigated His Case!

Jussie Smollett is on the hook for a six-figure police bill from the city of Chicago!

Even though all felony charges against the actor have been dismissed, and everybody appeared to have moved on, this story seriously never ends!

The Empire actor was able to walk away scot-free from what had been SIXTEEN felony counts against him after the Cook County District Attorney’s office opted to drop the charges, but the police department — who spent weeks investigating Smollett’s alleged attack, and then a hoax allegation against him — were not happy at the time.

Now, the police are getting their revenge in whatever way possible, it would seem, because they are holding Smollett accountable for a $130,000 bill for overtime pay for cops who investigated the actor’s case!

The Chicago Corporation Counsel — who handles civil claims for the city — sent a letter to the embattled actor demanding he pay $130,106.15 within seven days of receipt.

The letter goes on to say, in part (below):

“Over two dozen detectives and police officers participated in the investigation, ultimately spending weeks investigating your false claims. The Chicago police investigation revealed that you knowingly filed a false police report and had in fact orchestrated your own attack. [We demand] immediate payment of the $130,106.15 within 7 days, [or else we will] prosecute you for making a false statement under the Municipal Code of Chicago.”

Um… wow!!! (If you’re curious, you can read the full letter HERE.)

That last sentence — about prosecuting Smollett for making a false statement under the city’s municipal code — is especially chilling, implying that even though felony charges were dismissed against him days ago, he could once again find himself on the hook if he doesn’t pay up.

How is that legal?!

No matter, because the actor has already responded — and his response is very, very clear, with a spokesperson telling the media (below):

“It is the Mayor and the Police Chief who owe Jussie an apology for dragging an innocent man’s character through the mud. Jussie has paid enough.”

There you go! At least as it is now, it’s doubtful Jussie will pay that six-figure bill.

Pretty crazy all around, right, Perezcious readers?! So many twists and turns!
