Who knew there would be so much drama around “okurrr”??
As we already reported, Cardi B filed paperwork with the United States Patent and Trademark Office this year to trademark her signature phrase — with two different spellings — so it could be used for “clothing, namely, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, pants, shorts, jackets, footwear, headgear, namely, hats and caps, blouses, bodysuits, dresses, jumpsuits, leggings, skirts, sweaters, undergarments.”

And in a since-deleted Instagram video, Kulture‘s momma WAS defending the business move by referencing how people ask her constantly to make the famous chirp:
“Let me tell you something… You think i ain’t gonna profit off that?!”
Going on to explain that “white folks” do it all the time, she added:
“So you gonna be mad at me ‘cuz I want to get some motherf**king money? While I’m here, I’m gonna secure all the bags!”
Well, the 26-year-old made no mention of where “Okuuurrr” even came from, which she maybe should have mentioned before she tried to defend herself from the backlash.
While many believed it went back to RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Laganja Estranja back in 2014 after hearing Khloé Kardashian use it on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, it actually goes back even further!
Broadway actress Laura Bell Bundy was actually attributed with saying it first, you can ask RuPaul, after she started saying it in her “Shocantelle Brown” YouTube skits over 10 years ago!
“Okurrr” really took off from there!
And a close source EXCLUSIVELY tells us Bundy filed for the “okrr” trademark… a year ago! Even better, instead of trying to “secure all the bags” to profit from it, the starlet plans on coming out with a special t-shirt, and possibly more items, for charity soon!
The trademark office has yet to rule on Bundy’s request — or Cardi B’s, either — with lots to take into consideration before determining who should officially rock the trademark. But as far as timing is concerned, there’s no question there: Bundy came forward with her official paperwork months ahead of Cardi B!
