Nosferatu (1922)Not only was this silent movie one of the first big screen horror successes, it gave birth to the genre’s most beloved creature: the vampire. W. Murnau’s German expressionist film disturbed movie goers by blending sensuality, mortality, and suspense, and went on to define what has become one of the most popular sub-genres in horror history. Universal’s ‘Dracula,’ ‘Fright Night,’ ‘Interview with a Vampire,’ ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ and even ‘Twilight’ all owe their existence to this immortal masterpiece.
