His mother Cindy McClellan explained to Fox News that the gun in Justin’s pocket “went off and caught my son in the corner of his eye,” telling the outlet:

“He was a wonderful artist. He was the voice, he was the total package and we’re trying to keep his legend [alive].”

Cindy not only praised the 35-year-old’s talent, but his character as well, continuing:

“He was a wonderful person, very loving and he loved our God very much. He had a Bible in his room, in the den, he had one in his truck. He gave to charities.”

Tragically, the country singer’s music career was really starting to take off at the time of his death.

Cindy told Fox News her son had just been signed to Triple Threat Management and was about to hit the road on a 10-state tour. He also released a new song on March 9, titled Love Affair:

Justin’s management company confirmed his death on Thursday. Company rep Mark Atherton compared the late musician to one of country music’s most legendary singers, saying in a statement:

“Justin had a potential to, you know, in our eyes, and a lot of people’s eyes, to be the next Garth Brooks.”

The rep didn’t reveal any other details about Justin’s death.

The musician’s Instagram page thanked his followers for their support in a heartfelt message on Sunday, asking fans to donate to Justin’s family to cover his funeral costs.

The post read:

“Please keep Justin’s family in your prayers & give them privacy in this hard time. Justin is no longer with us, he has passed away. He will be missed by us all. He was always full of joy, laughter, and loved on so many people in his life. Justin appreciated all his fans and their support. Justin loved all of you. His passion and drive stem from being influenced by some of the greats since he was just a child. He grew up listening to Waylon, Hank, George and Jones. Some of his favorites are Clay Walker, Garth Brooks and George Strait.”

So heartbreaking. Sending thoughts and prayers to Justin’s family during this hard time.
