Former Drag Race star Shangela Laquifa Wadley — known to fans simply as the iconic Shangela — did her thing at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday night, with a performance that truly brought down the house!
The lip sync was a true show-stopper — lasting seven full minutes and covering a medley of Beyoncé‘s hits! Oh, and did we mention… the Queen Bey was in the audience herself, and she LOVED it!!

Shangela took over the room in the tightly-choreographed seven-minute medley, earning herself a wild standing ovation at the end of it all… including love from Beyoncé and hubby JAY-Z, who were standing along with everybody else in the crowd!!!

And as you can see (below), Bey and Jay were VERY impressed, along with everybody else in attendance, during that well-deserved standing O!!!
Clearly still affected by the incredible performance, Bey and Jay took to the stage themselves to accept the prestigious Vanguard Award when the Queen admitted she was still a little emotionally drained.
She told the audience that she was “super honored and overwhelmed,” and that (below):
“I’ve already cried. I put a run in my stocking from Shangela.”
Ha!!!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all fun and games at the awards show last night…
While accepting that Vanguard honor, Bey revealed to the audience that her uncle, Johnny, died of HIV, and his loss still rocks her to this day.
She told the audience (below):
“[Johnny was] the most fabulous gay man I have ever met. He lived his truth and was brave and unapologetic at a time when this country wasn’t as accepting. Witnessing his battle with HIV was one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever lived. I’m hopeful that his struggled served to open pathways for other young people to live more freely. LGBTQI rights are human rights. To choose who you love is your human right. How you identify and see yourself is your human right. Who you make love to and take that ass to Red Lobster is your human right.”
Wow!
Here’s more of that powerful acceptance speech caught on video (below):
So inspiring… and so real.
What a powerful and memorable night all around at the GLAAD Media Awards!
