Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty are devastated.
The women, both of whom starred alongside Luke Perry on Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990-2000, are “heartbroken” and reeling after his sudden death on Monday at 52 years old, just days after he suffered a massive stroke.

Speaking exclusively to People in a statement released about her costar’s death, the 45-year-old Spelling shared her heartache and shock, saying (below):
“I’m in utter shock and heartbroken. I’m saddened for his kids whom he adored beyond words. He was so proud of Jack and Sophie. Luke was one of the kindest and most humble human beings I’ve ever known. I’m grateful for the years of friendship we had. He truly was family to me, a protector and a brother. I’m so sorry for the loss that everyone is experiencing.”
So sad…
As you’d expect, for Spelling — and for Doherty — spending a decade on national television alongside Perry and the rest of the 90210 cast left the actors’ bonds as close as family by the time the show’s run came to an end.
For those cast members to now lose one fellow star so suddenly… it’s a tough, tragic time, indeed.
Speaking of Shannen…
She’s also reeling after Perry’s sudden passing, and she showed her shock through her own statement released to People about her beloved cast mate’s death (below):
“I am in shock. Heartbroken. Devastated by the loss of my friend. I have so many memories with Luke that make me smile and that are forever imprinted on my heart and mind. Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained in tact.”
Truly so heartbreaking…
Doherty played Perry’s on-screen girlfriend, bad girl Brenda Walsh, for four seasons before leaving the show. Of course, as she refers in the statement, the 47-year-old dealt with breast cancer — a scary battle that Perry apparently supported her with throughout.

Other Perry cast mates and costars on both 90210 and Riverdale have been quick to pay their own tributes on social media and elsewhere, too, in the last 24 hours. Clearly, the actor had an incredible impact on those around him over his entire body of television work spanning several decades.
