R. Kelly is still behind bars in a Chicago jail cell — and he could be there until at least Tuesday, or maybe even Wednesday, depending on how long it’ll take for bail paperwork to go through!
This report, out new in TMZ on Sunday afternoon, holds that Kelly’s lawyers are frantically trying to get their client’s finances in order so he can make payment to the courts, both for bail money and for that ongoing child support problem.

The issue here: slow-moving bureaucracy. Apparently, Kelly’s lawyers are heading to the Child Support Bureau on Monday morning to find out exactly how much their client owes in back pay. From there, they’ll head to the bank, according to reports, where they will hopefully find enough money in Kelly’s accounts to pay the child support and bail in one shot.
Payments sometimes take up to 48 hours to go through, though, so you’d imagine that Kelly likely won’t be out until Tuesday — and it might not be until Wednesday! Yikes….
Low key though, here’s the craziest part of all this so far: the judge who presided over Kelly’s bond hearing on Saturday — John Fitzgerald Lyke Jr. — is the SAME JUDGE who presided over Empire actor Jussie Smollett‘s bond hearing earlier this week.
What a weird week at work for THAT judge!
Anyways, Kelly may be in jail for 48 hours more, but soon enough — if his finances cooperate, that is — he’ll be out on bail.
