High School Student Involved In Lincoln Memorial Controversy Sues 'Washington Post' For $250 Million

The student from Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky who was at the center of last month’s videotaped Lincoln Memorial controversy is now seeking legal relief.

Nicholas Sandmann, 16, is suing the Washington Post for $250 million in damages over how he claims the paper “wrongfully targeted and bullied” him over that viral encounter with Native American protesters while he was on a school field trip.

As you’ll remember, the teen drew widespread attention from all over the internet for wearing his MAGA hat and smiling while a Native American man (and Vietnam War veteran) pounded a drum in front of him.

Sandmann’s school had been at the March For Life anti-abortion rally in Washington D.C. earlier that day.

The Post had just one comment about the pending lawsuit, with Vice President for Communications Kristine Coratti Kelly saying to the media:

“We are reviewing a copy of the lawsuit and we plan to mount a vigorous defense.”

Ironically, $250 million is how much Amazon founder Jeff Bezos paid for the Washington Post altogether when he first bought the paper back in 2013. So, yeah… this lawsuit is seeking HUGE damages.

And, according to the student’s lawyer Lin Wood, “additional similar lawsuits” will reportedly be filed in the weeks ahead.

It’s unclear whether that means other students will be suing the Post, or Sandmann himself will be suing other publications, but either way… this isn’t the last we’ve heard of this story.
